The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has initiated the first phase of reforms in its solid waste management system by directing the removal of all non-hydraulic tractor-trolleys used for garbage collection across the city. The move aims to improve the efficiency of waste collection and strengthen monitoring of sanitation services.
Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey said that GPS devices have already been installed in waste collection vehicles to enable real-time tracking and better supervision of field operations. However, replacing the existing non-hydraulic tractor-trolleys will take time as the process is being implemented in phases. Chief municipal health officer Dr Anand Shukla said that orders for the first phase have already been issued. He informed that all tractor-trolleys will be allotted ward-wise to streamline waste collection and improve accountability. Each vehicle will also display its respective ward number, making it easier for the officials and residents to identify the vehicles assigned to specific areas.
Shukla said that some administrative formalities are still being completed before the full implementation of the plan. According to him, the new system will improve route management, vehicle monitoring and service delivery. He added that assigning vehicles ward-wise and tracking them through GPS will help reduce operational lapses, improve transparency and ensure timely garbage collection across the city.
