Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha speaker Ritu Khanduri said that environmental awareness is necessary for the safety of human life. People are safe till the environment is safe, she said. The speaker planted saplings of various species in the Pinyali forest area of government degree college during a plantation programme organised by the forest department in Kotdwar on Friday. This programme was organised as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Speaking on the occasion, Khanduri said that the Hariyali Mahotsav as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is being organised to raise public awareness on the importance of the trees for the future generations. She said that greenery plays a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and for this reason Hariyali Mohatasv is being celebrated in the nation. Khanduri emphasised that public should be motivated for the plantation of different species particularly medicinal species. Lansdowne divisional forest officer Amrish Kumar, sub divisional officer Kishore Nautiyal and others were also present on the occasion.
