To ensure the success of the 38th National Games, Sports minister Rekha Arya said that equipment has been ordered from across the country for the event. She stated that efforts have been made to develop sports infrastructure in the State, including world-class sports grounds and a cycling velodrome for disciplines that previously lacked proper facilities.
However, Arya said that not all the necessary equipment is available in India. Based on expert advice, the government chose to procure sports equipment from countries including France, Sweden, Australia, Germany, Spain, Japan, the United States, The Netherlands, Switzerland, England, Portugal and Slovakia which are renowned for their Olympic-level standards.
The Sports minister added that all the sports equipment has arrived at the venues and is in the process of being prepared for use. She emphasised that this equipment will not only serve the National Games but will also play a vital role in training future international players from Uttarakhand. Therefore, quality was not compromised in the selection process.
She said that if any of Uttarakhand’s athletes qualify for competitions like the Olympics, they will already be familiar with the equipment they will use. Despite some logistical challenges causing delays in the arrival of certain pieces of equipment, she expressed her happiness that the sports grounds are now fully ready.
