Pushkar Singh Dhami who was sworn in as chief minister of Uttarakhand for second consecutive term on March 23 this year is facing a challenge from unexpected quarters, his predecessors the former CMs belonging to his own party. After the commission barb by the former chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat another former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat has brought discomfiture to the Dhami government on the Smart city project. In a video which is making rounds in the social media, the former CM termed the progress and status of the Smart city project in Dehradun as disappointing. He claimed that the work was going on appreciably during the three years of his tenure as CM.
Rawat said that Dehradun was selected in the smart city project in the last round and at that time it was placed at 99th position in the list of 100 cities. He further claimed that during his tenure Dehradun first jumped to 9th and then reached number one position in the country. “Today it is disappointing everyone, away from the idea of a smart city. Everyone blames his predecessor but no one is ready to accept that mistakes have been committed, blame game is going on,’’ he quipped.
Trivendra Singh Rawat who served as the chief minister of the State for almost four years before he was unceremoniously removed from the position in March 2021 has remained vocal on many issues and has not hesitated to question some of the actions of the State government. He has consistently defended his decision to the Char Dham Devasthanam Management act which was later repealed by Dhami government and defended one of his close aides on whom money laundering case was registered by the prevention of economic offences wing of Uttarakhand police.
Interestingly the statement of Trivendra Singh Rawat came close on heels of the comment of former CM Tirath Singh Rawat in which he purportedly claimed that nothing gets done in Uttarakhand without paying commission. In a video that has gone viral the former CM and MP from Garhwal reportedly said , “ When we were separated from Uttar Pradesh, up to 20 per cent commission used to be paid there to get works done. After creation of new state, it should have come to nil here but the practice continued and we began with 20 per cent.’’
It would be interesting to note whether or not the central leadership of the party which is at present busy campaigning in Gujarat takes cognizance of the comments of the former CMs which are making things uncomfortable for the Dhami government.
