A 26-year-old woman was arrested along with two others for plotting to kill her former lover, a bank employee, after he got engaged to another woman, police said on Saturday. The superintendent of police (Crime and Traffic) Jitender Choudhary said that the woman, identified as Malia Rahman, gave a Rs five lakh contract to a criminal to kill the man. The case came to light after the bank employee was shot in the Badawala area of Patelnagar on September 8.
Rahman said on Saturday, “He used me physically, mentally and financially for five years. He said Rachi was his sister, but he also got engaged to her. He disturbed me and hurt me a lot, which is why I took this step.”
She also claimed that she had lodged a complaint against him at Kankhal police station in Haridwar, but alleged that the police had not taken any action.
According to the police, Rahman had been in a relationship with the victim, Satyam Kumar, for around five years. Choudhary said the two had met while working in Haridwar. Rahman later married another man but continued to remain in contact with Kumar. Her marriage eventually ended. The SP said that Kumar got engaged to another woman in February this year and later stopped contacting Rahman and blocked her on social media. Angry over this, she allegedly decided to have him killed.
Choudhary said that Rahman contacted her associate Mohit, who then introduced her to Ankit Chauhan, a resident of Laksar. She allegedly promised Chauhan Rs five lakh and paid him Rs 1.20 lakh in advance. Chauhan was also allegedly given Kumar’s photograph and details of his workplace.
On September 11, police encountered the two alleged shooters in Patelnagar. Chauhan was shot in the leg, while Ankur escaped. Police later arrested Rahman and Mohit near ISBT. Ankur remains wanted, the police said.
