Dehradun police arrested a man accused of demanding extortion money and firing at a house in the Premnagar area. The accused, identified as 25-year-old Aman of Nalapani, was arrested from the Bidholi area and found in possession of an illegal .315 bore country-made pistol and two live cartridges on Wednesday.
Premnagar resident Seema Rajput had filed a complaint on May 25 in which she alleged that Aman along with Arjun, Deepika and Vikas Balara, had demanded Rs 30 lakh from her husband Sanjay Kumar. The accused allegedly threatened the family and later opened fire at their house to create fear and force them to pay the money.
The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobal said that the extortion plot was planned by Arjun, who is currently lodged in Suddhowala jail in connection with a murder case. Aman told the police that he became friends with Arjun while serving time in jail. Arjun allegedly claimed that Sanjay Rajput had promised him a large amount of money in the past but never paid it. To recover the money, Arjun allegedly asked Aman, Deepika and Vikas Balara to threaten Rajpupt and his family, police said.
Rajput had informed the police on the morning of May 20 that Balara allegedly threw a threatening letter into his house in East Hope Town while Aman fired a shot towards the house. The two then fled from the spot. Dobal said that Aman has a criminal history and has been jailed in the past in cases related to murder, NDPS Act and Arms Act. “We are now searching for the remaining accused, including Deepika and Balara,” he said.
