Family gang arrested for intimidation and land grabbing in Dehradun

PIONEEREDGE NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

A family gang of five was arrested by Dehradun police on Sunday for allegedly threatening people and attempting to grab their land in Ranipokhari. The accused used intimidation and threats of false cases to take control of plots, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that the case began after a complaint was filed on August 23 by a Dehradun resident Alka Singhal.

She stated that she had purchased land in Shantinagar, Ranipokhari in 2016 and had been in possession since then. According to her, neighbour Tara Devi and her family tried to take over the plot by claiming it as their own. She further alleged that they threatened her with death and warned of implicating her in a false SC/ST case if she resisted. Singh said that based on her complaint, an FIR was registered at Ranipokhari police station with charges under sections 191(2), 351(2), 329(3) and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During investigation, police found that the accused had been involved in similar incidents earlier, with several criminal cases already registered against them, many still pending in court.

The SSP said that the police arrested all five accused named in the case on Sunday. They were identified as Kamal Swaroop, his wife Tara Devi, their sons Ajay Kumar and Vikas alias Vikki and Vikas’s wife Soni Devi, all residents of Shantinagar, Ranipokhari. Singh stated that the police records show that the family gang has been booked in about 16 previous cases, including cheating, assault, intimidation and fraud, dating back to 2005. The accused are currently in judicial custody and further investigation is underway, he added.
