Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal on Sunday morning stopped an encroachment attempt on municipal land during an inspection in Amwala Tarla ward in Raipur area. He was reviewing sanitation arrangements in the area and meeting local residents when people informed him that certain individuals were trying to occupy municipal land and begin construction.

The mayor said that he immediately directed Raipur police station in-charge Girish Negi to stop the work on the spot. He also instructed the municipal corporation team to reach the site, verify the situation and take necessary action. He instructed officials to initiate strict legal measures against those involved in the encroachment attempt.

Speaking on the matter, Thapliyal said that encroachment is a major issue in Dehradun and the municipal corporation has been taking regular action against such activities. He said that the corporation has already removed several illegal structures in recent months and further monitoring is being carried out across wards. “Government lands are meant for public facilities and any attempt to occupy them will not be tolerated. Also, the cooperation from citizens is important in reporting such incidents at the earliest” he said.

He stated that timely information from local residents helps the corporation act quickly and prevent permanent damage to public land. Thapliyal urged the public to remain vigilant and assured that the corporation will continue to act firmly against land mafias and others engaged in illegal construction.
