A man from a firm in Faridabad has been called in for questioning by the police in Dehradun. He was allegedly going to buy a suspected radioactive material (RAM) device from the accused who were arrested in connection with the RAM device seizure case, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He said that the accused were attempting to sell the device as a genuine RAM device but expert teams have not found any presence of radioactive material in the device so far. However, the teams did find traces of certain chemicals that emit gamma rays which were possibly added by the accused to create a false impression of the presence of radioactive material in the device. These points will be clear after thorough testing of the device in the lab. The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) team will take possession of the RAM device by Tuesday after obtaining court approval, he said. He informed that the police identified some people involved in the sale and purchase process of the device during the investigation. The police have contacted a man from a firm who was allegedly planning to buy the device. Singh said, “The man told the police that his firm has a license to use such devices for their work and was in touch with the accused to purchase the device. The police have summoned him to Dehradun for interrogation regarding the case and once he arrives, we will be able to disclose more about his intention to buy the device and related details.” In response to a question about whether the radiation from the suspected RAM device could have affected the accused and others, the SSP said that according to the initial report from the relevant agencies, it is quite unlikely. “Nothing of this sort has been disclosed by the agencies so far,” he said.
