Farmers learn apiculture to augment their income

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)- Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kafligar organised training programme on scientific beekeeping under the national honey and bee mission. A total of 50 farmers in two groups were provided training in the programme conducted at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra. The farmers were given practical training with information and tips on beekeeping. These trainees were also taken on a field visit on experimental farm of the Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan at Hawalbagh where they were provided special information on bee unit of the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology. In order to provide more information, along with providing information about government facilities to the farmers, a visit to the government bee centre at Jyolikot in Nainital was also facilitated for the farmers. According to the officials involved in the programme, the training provided to the farmers is aimed at encouraging them to take up apiculture as a means to augment their income. It is pertinent to mention here that apiculture is one of the activities which the farmer are being encouraged to undertake in order to fulfill the government’s aim of doubling the income of farmers.
