Fire at Amazon’s warehouse kills 2 workers

Two employees were charred to death after a massive fire broke out at the e commerce platform Amazon’s warehouse located near a hotel on Rampur Road late Friday night. A joint team of police and fire department put out the fire after battling the flames for several hours.  

Police said that they were informed about the fire at around 11:50 PM. Upon receiving the information, Haldwani police and fire department teams rushed to the scene. The Haldwani superintendent of police Manoj Katyal and inspector-in-charge Vijay Mehta also arrived at the scene and supervised the relief and rescue operations.

“After the fire was extinguished, two bodies were found inside the warehouse. The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Narendra Prasad from Bagjala, Gaulapar, and 25-year-old Amit Arya, from   Haldwani. As per the preliminary investigation, both died from severe burns and asphyxia. Both the bodies were sent for post-mortem. The cause of the fire is being investigated,” said a police officer.
