Gangotri & Yamunotri: Number crosses 10 L in 47 days, a new record

Since the Char Dham Yatra commenced on April 19, the number of pilgrims, who visited Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines, has broken previous records having crossed the 10 lakh mark As per the Yatra data, from April 19 to June 4, a total of 10, 15, 852 devotees visited both the Dhams, which is 7.5 per cent more than the same period last year. Notably, Uttarkashi district is home to two of the four revered shrines known as Char Dham.
By the 47th day of the pilgrimage, 4,98, 367 pilgrims visited Yamunotri Dham, while 5,17,485 pilgrims visited Gangotri Dham. During this period, a total of 99,165 vehicles operated between the two shrines, including 74,365 small vehicles and 24,800 large vehicles.
Taking the surging pilgrim influx seriously, the administration and police have enhanced arrangements to ensure a safe, smooth, and well-organised Yatra. Special arrangements have been made for traffic management, disaster management and security for the pilgrims, informed
the superintendent of police, Kamlesh Upadhyay.
“Uttarkashi police are maintaining constant vigil along the Yatra routes and Dham premises with CCTV cameras and drones monitoring things round the clock,” the SP said, adding that the Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham areas have been divided into two super zones, 12 zones, and 30 sectors, where officers and police personnel have been deployed in adequate numbers.
Uttarkashi police say that the SP has been personally reviewing and monitoring the Yatra arrangements regularly.
