Fitness certificate of three inter-State buses revoked

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Transport department revoked the fitness certification of three buses from other States operating in Dehradun due to identified deficiencies. This action follows complaints regarding luxury buses from other States failing to meet standards, incidents of bus fires and permit condition violations. Regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) Dehradun, Anita Chamola, based on the said complaints, is leading an inspection campaign, deploying enforcement, task force and interceptor teams to scrutinise buses near the ISBT.

According to Chamola, buses stopped during the campaign were inspected by the regional inspector (Technical), revealing several deficiencies in three buses, including excessive overhang beyond the limits stipulated in Rule 93 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, unauthorised seating capacity exceeding registered limits, installation of sliding shutters on sleeping berths and other regulatory breaches.

Chamola said that two of the buses are registered in Bihar and one in Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Due to the identified deficiencies, their fitness certifications have been revoked on the recommendation of the technical officer, prioritising road safety and public safety. Notices have been issued to the vehicle owners, asking them to rectify the defects and re-certify their vehicles for fitness. Correspondence has also been sent to registration officials to blacklist the vehicles until necessary repairs are made, she said.

She further said that the vehicle owners have been summoned to the office with all relevant documents to present their case regarding these issues. Chamola emphasised that if the vehicles are found to be non-compliant with the standards in the future, a recommendation will be made to the relevant registration officers for the cancellation of their registrations.
