Nainital Winter Carnival starts with a mix of art and culture

Various art and cultural activities were held as part of the Nainital Winter Carnival here on Tuesday. Nainital MLA Sarita Arya and additional district magistrate Vivek Rai flagged off the carnival procession in the city to mark the occasion.

The carnival procession started at Tallital Gandhi Chowk, passed through the Mall Road and concluded at the Flats Ground, Mallital. Tourists from various parts of the nation and abroad were seen enjoying the views and presentations of the carnival procession.The tableau of Lakhiya Bhoot was one of the major attractions of the procession which elicited much appreciation from the viewers.

The acrobatics displayed by the Baba Deep Singh Gatka group also enthralled the audience during the procession. The Rang Kalyan Sansthan, Haldwani and members of the Tibetan community also displayed their traditional folk presentations during the procession. Amidst the motley colours of cultural and artistic presentations, the performance by the bands of the Kumaon Regiment and Sainik School, Ghorakhal, spread a sense of patriotism among the viewers. A programme involving yachts and rowing boats was also held on the Naini lake on the occasion. 

Speaking on the occasion, Arya said that the Nainital Winter Carnival will not only encourage winter tourism but also play an important role in providing a national and international identity to the rich cultural heritage of Uttarakhand. The municipal council chairman Saraswati Khetal, district tourism officer Atul Bhandari, Nainital hotel Association head Digvijay Singh Bisht and others were also present on the occasion.
