Five students arrested for betting on IPL match

Dehradun police arrested five college students for illegal online betting on the ongoing cricket matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The superintendent of police (city) Sarita Dobhal said in a Press conference here on Tuesday that the senior superintendent of police, Daleep Singh Kunwar has formed a team to keep an eye on illegal betting in the city. The said team received a tip off late on Monday night that some college students are betting illegally online on IPL matches in a house near Sadbhavna Kunj in Panditwari area.
The police team immediately raided the house and arrested five accused from the spot- Aditya Aman (23), Satyam Singh (23), Pranav Kumar (20), Aamir Kumar (20) and Harsh Kumar (20). All accused belong to Bihar and were currently pursuing graduation and post-graduation in Dehradun. Dobhal said that the police also recovered 14 ATM cards, seven mobile phones and Rs 23,000 cash among other items from the accused. The police also recovered 70 bottles of illegal English liquor with Haryana and Chandigarh marks on searching the house.
The SP said that as per the accused, they used to bet on IPL matches online to earn quick profits. They also used to bring cheap liquor from Haryana and Chandigarh to sell to college students that earned them good profit too. The police have imposed charges against all accused under the Gambling Act and Excise Act and will produce them in the court soon. Dobhal said that the police have also sent a report of arrested accused to their respective educational institutions who will soon take action against them.
