The Food Safety and Drug Administration department continued its drive to check food quantity and prevent the sale of adulterated paneer and other non-dairy products in Dehradun on Tuesday. Three restaurants — Rajiv, Garhwal Bhojnalaya and Lazeez Kathi Roll — were closed during the inspection. The inspection was taken across the district.
Food Safety commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that the department is taking strict action against restaurants and food shops that fail to maintain food quality, cleanliness and hygiene in their kitchens. Action is also being taken in cases of food adulteration.
The kitchens of Hotel Madhuban, JSR and hotel Sarovar Portico were inspected on Tuesday. The officials found problems with the label on packaged tamarind at one of the hotels. A notice was issued to the manufacturer. Two samples of prepared dal and one sample of cheese were also collected for testing.
The teams also inspected restaurants on Rajpur Road near the Forest Department office. Serious cleanliness problems were found in two restaurants. Officials ordered them to remain closed until the problems were fixed.
A sample of open paneer was collected from one restaurant for testing. Another restaurant did not have its food licence available during the inspection. Its kitchen was also found to be dirty. Officials directed the restaurant not to sell food without a valid licence.
A separate team also inspected dairy shops in Nehru Gram and around six number Pulia. One milk sample and one paneer sample were collected on suspicion of adulteration. The samples will be sent for testing.
