A 40-year-old woman attacked by a wild elephant on Monday evening in the Thano area on the outskirts of Dehradun succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in a hospital.
The deceased was identified as Anjali Gupta. According to the information, the incident took place at about 7 PM in Badasi Grant. She was returning home after getting milk when the elephant attacked her. Gupta suffered serious injuries in the attack. Her family took her to a private hospital in Dehradun for treatment. However, she died a few hours later while undergoing treatment.
Local residents claimed that elephants are damaging their crops and boundary walls. They said that an elephant had been seen in the fields of the Sauda Saroli area earlier on Monday. A video of the elephant has also gone viral on social media. The attack later in the evening has created fear and anger among villagers.
Villagers said they had raised the issue before the district administration and the MLA during a multipurpose camp held in Thano on January 15. But no action has been taken for the safety of the village people.
