52 swine flu cases in Dehradun district, five deaths so far: CMO

The Dehradun chief medical officer, Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma said that 52 cases of swine flu (influenza H1N1) have been confirmed in the district as of August 26; along with this, five individuals who contracted the virus have died. On Wednesday, three new cases of swine flu were reported within the district, one from Dehradun and two from other States and districts. Out of the total cases reported so far, 17 are from other States and districts, he said. 

Sharma added that currently, 16 cases remain active, with 13 patients admitted to Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, two at Kailash Hospital and one at Max Hospital. Given these numbers, the State Health department has come in an alert mode and has issued advisory on Swine Flu. In response, the CMO has issued guidance for both government and private hospitals in the district recently. 

The CMO urged residents to take precautions, including avoiding crowded places. If attendance at gatherings is necessary, wearing a mask is recommended. Additionally, it is vital to maintain hygiene by washing hands with soap before meals and after returning home to prevent swine flu. It is important to mention that the district hospital has isolated a 10-bed ward specifically for this purpose and has also set up a separate flu outpatient department (OPD).

DEHRADUN: The total number of dengue cases reported in Dehradun district this season has climbed to 103, following the identification of six new cases on Wednesday. The Dehradun chief medical officer Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma reported that among these new cases, three were recorded at Himalayan Hospital and three at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital.

Of the total 103 dengue cases, 49 are confirmed cases from Dehradun, while 54 cases have been reported from other districts and States, he said.

Sharma added that currently, there are 13 patients undergoing treatment for dengue: six at Himalayan Hospital, five at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital and two at Kailash Hospital. On Wednesday, health officials collected 344 dengue samples, bringing the cumulative total to 20,401 samples tested so far, he said.
