Former MLA and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ has been sent to 14 days in judicial custody while Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar was granted bail by the court a day after the former MLA and his supporters fired multiple rounds at Kumar’s office allegedly in response to the current MLA also doing the same a day ago, according to Singh’s wife.

The latest feud between the two politicians began on social media with one of them using objectionable terms against the other and his family members. In response, Kumar went to the former MLA’s home in Roorkee and asked him to come out and clarify the matter. Late on Sunday afternoon, Singh and his supporters reached the MLA’s office and after a brief verbal altercation they shot multiple rounds. The supporters of the two politicians enganged in verbal and physical violence which reportedly resulted in injuries to three supporters of the MLA. Singh was in Dehradun on the same evening when he was halted by the police and then taken by Haridwar police. He was presented in court on Monday, from where he was sent to 14 days in judicial custody. Meanwhile, Kumar was granted bail by the court on the same day.

The district police have stated that they are investigating the case based on the complaints lodged by both the sides. Haridwar senior superintendent of police Parmendra Singh Dobhal said that the police have registered cases under various sections and are investigating the case. The police are recommending that the firearm license granted to both Singh and Kumar be suspended. In addition to this, the police will also submit their report suggesting that the security granted to these two by the government be withdrawn.

Earlier, while being taken by the police to Haridwar on Sunday, Singh said that the police had not acted against Kumar when he had attacked his residence and threatened him, adding that he is a victim of injustice. Kumar said on Monday that he could have incited the crowd to violence but he had trust in the legal system. However, he stressed that he will strongly object if his parents or family members are insulted in the future.
