The foundation day of Himachal Pradesh was celebrated at Lok Bhavan here on Wednesday. The event was attended by students from Himachal Pradesh’s Dehradun-based institutions and others.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor lieutenant general (Retd), Gurmit Singh said that Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand share not only geographical proximity but also a deep and intimate bond at the cultural, spiritual and natural levels. He said that both the states are known as Devbhoomi, where the sanctity, folk traditions, faith, simple lifestyle and respect for nature are equally reflected.

Praising the glorious history and rich cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh, the governor said that celebrating the foundation days of various states is not just a programme, but a powerful medium to understand and embrace the diversity of the country. “Such events provide an opportunity to learn about each other’s languages, clothing, cuisine, folk arts and traditions, thereby promoting mutual harmony, dialogue and cultural coordination among the states. The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme plays a vital role in strengthening national unity and integrity,’’ he said.

During the event, students presented cultural programmes showcasing Himachal’s rich folk culture.

Secretary to governor Ravinath Raman, additional secretary Reena Joshi and others attended the programme.
