With the ritual of Nahay Khay, the festival of Chhath Puja started on Monday. This four-day-long festival is dedicated to Lord Surya ( Sun) and Chhath Goddess and its preparations start a day after Deepawali.
The general secretary of Bihari Mahasabha, Chandan Jha said that each day of the festival has its own significance. He said that on the first day, the devotees who keep fast take a bath, wear clean clothes and prepare Prasad from rice, split chickpeas and pumpkin which are generally prepared on earthen Chulha. After offering it to the lord and the goddess, the devotees eat the Prasad. With the Kharna ritual on the second day, the devotees eat Kheer and roti after fasting the whole day, stated Jha.
On the third day, the devotees offer Arghya to the Sun in the evening after fasting for 24 hours and conclude the festival with the Argya to the rising sun on the fourth day. He said that keeping fast on this festival and conducting all the rituals with faith and dedication brings happiness and prosperity to the families.
The festival would be organised in many places in the provisional state capital Dehradun and the organizers have made all the preparations for the devotees.
