Four killed, three missing after vehicle falls into Alaknanda near Devprayag

Four persons died, three are missing and a teenager was rescued after an Innova multi utility vehicle plying from Srinagar to Haridwar fell about 250 metres down the mountainside into the Alaknanda river near Devprayag on Tuesday morning. According to the details, the search and rescue operation was continuing till late evening.

Official sources informed that the vehicle fell off the road at about 10 AM at Chakasa in Devprayag. The local police, Revenue department personnel and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams reached the site of the mishap on being informed about it.  Additional rescue teams of the SDRF from Srinagar, Byasi and Dhalwala including a diving team were also sent to the site. Four bodies had been recovered by late in the evening while a 15-year-old boy was rescued alive during the joint rescue operation. The boy was sent to the base hospital in Srikot for medical attention. Sources said that the police and SDRF teams were carrying out a search and rescue operation in difficult terrain with three persons still reported missing.

The Tehri police have appealed to the public to not believe in any unconfirmed information regarding the mishap and to share only verified details provided by authorised sources.
