Doctors in the city have observed a noticeable rise in fungal infections among the people during the ongoing monsoon season. Head of the dermatology department at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital Dr Shruti Barnwal said that she has noted a rise in such cases during this period. Barnwal recommended preventive measures such as wearing loose clothing, maintaining dry skin and using appropriate soap to cleanse the body after returning from outdoors.
Further, skin specialist Dr Anil Arya added that the humid conditions during this time promote fungal growth, resulting in symptoms such as redness, itching and marks on the body. To prevent this, individuals are advised to wear loose-fitting clothing, thoroughly dry their bodies when wet and seek medical advice from healthcare doctors instead of self-medicating, as it may exacerbate the condition.
