During the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, the former Union Minister of State and MP from Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar Parliamentary constituency, Ajay Bhatt asked the Union Minister of Surface Transport, Nitin Gadkari in the form of a starred question about the timeframe by which the automation work under Fastag system involving all toll plazas across the country would be completed. Besides, Bhatt asked Gadkari about the steps the Union Ministry had taken to expedite such works related to the maintenance of national highways in Uttarakhand which have been delayed due to heavy rain- related incidents.
In response to the starred question, Gadkari informed that the Centre had declared all lanes of toll plazas on National Highways as FASTag lanes from midnight of 15/16 February 2021. Currently, over 98 per cent of the user fee collection under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme is done through FASTag, he further informed.
