GDMC & District Hospital gear up to meet Holi challenge

The administration of Doon Medical College (GDMC) and Deen Dayal Upadhyay District Hospital has issued a directive to doctors to stay vigilant during Holi festivities. It has been noted that incidents of accidents, allergic reactions and injuries associated with colours tend to rise during this time. 

The medical superintendent at GDMC Hospital, Dr RS Bisht stated that during Holi, the hospital typically sees a significant number of cases related to various departments, including ophthalmology, ENT, orthopaedics dermatology and internal medicine, among others. Moreover, there has been an increase in cases related to these departments in the emergency unit as well. Therefore, the doctors in these specialties have been instructed to remain alert. 

He stated that the responsibilities of the doctors assigned to the said department have been organised in shifts at the Emergency department. These directives have been issued for the day before, the day of and the day after the Holi. He also said that doctors have been instructed to remain on standby. In addition, nursing officers have been assigned extra duties for this period. Further, the pharmacy has been directed to stock up on all necessary medications and other supplies. 

“The doctors have been instructed to remain vigilant and on call during the Holi celebrations. Additionally, adequate supplies of medicine, dressing materials and other necessities have been ensured to be in stock at the hospital,” stated principal medical superintendent at District Hospital Dr Manu Jain.

He also said that, in light of Holi, an emergency medical officer and junior doctors have been assigned to duty in the Emergency department. The doctors will be on alert till March 5.
