A  KU student selected for internship in Japan

A seventh-semester BSc student at Kumaun University’s DSB campus, Mitali Negi has been selected for a three-month internship at the prestigious Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, the university sources said, adding that this internship would be fully funded by Japan. Negi is leaving for Japan this week.

Notably, KU’s vice- chancellor, Diwan Singh Rawat, who has a long-standing academic ties with the institute, is currently a visiting professor there. He had initiated academic collaboration with JAIST during his tenure at the University of Delhi. During his Japan visit in December last, he held detailed discussions on the possibilities of the institute’s academic exchange with KU which resulted in the signing of a MoU between the two institutes.

As per this agreement, JAIST will provide support to 2/3 KU students every year for short-term internships. Also, if the student’s work is found to be excellent, he/she can also be given the opportunity of admission for PhD. Mitali Negi is the first student to go to  the institute under this agreement, KU sources said.
