GDMC Hospital doctors absent during OPD hours, principal takes notice

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
Despite repeated warnings and instructions, doctors at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital were found absent from the outpatient department (OPD) even after 10 AM, which has raised serious concerns. This was revealed during a surprise inspection conducted by the principal of the hospital Dr Geeta Jain on Tuesday.
According to officials, Jain inspected various OPDs at the hospital and found that some departments did not start at the scheduled time of 9 AM. The hospital administration has already made it clear that all OPDs should operate from 9 AM to 3 PM. However, during the inspection, many doctors were missing from their OPD rooms even after 10 AM.
Jain expressed dissatisfaction regarding this situation and directed the heads of the departments concerned to take immediate corrective action. She emphasised that patients come to the hospital with hope and confidence in receiving treatment and timely operation of the OPDs is the hospital’s primary responsibility. Any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated. The principal reiterated that a zero-tolerance policy regarding OPD punctuality will be adopted and surprise inspections will continue in the future.
During the inspection, the functioning of the Surgery department was found to be commendable. Despite having only three faculty members, one of whom was away on official business, the OPD was being effectively managed by a senior resident from 9 AM, officials added.
