Following the alleged attack on Primary Education director Ajay Kumar Naudiyal in his office by supporters of BJP MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’ from the Raipur constituency, a State-wide work boycott continued on the second day at the Uttarakhand Vidyalaya Shiksha Parishad (UVSP) on Tuesday.
The protesters are demanding the immediate arrest of those accused of assault and indecency with the director of Primary Education on February 21. Earlier, various employee associations within the Education department had expressed their outrage at the incident and decided to hold protests wearing black armbands on February 23 and 24.
During the protest at UVSP, speakers demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and the issuance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to eliminate the atmosphere of fear regarding the safety of officers, teachers and employees in government institutions.
The protest was addressed by several speakers, including secretary of UVSP Vinod Prasad Simalti and Ramnagar block education officer Havaldar Prasad, among others. According to the officials, the future strategy for the movement will be shaped based on further decisions of the core committee.
It will be recalled that the president of the Rajkiya Shikshak Sangh (RSS) Ram Singh Chauhan stated that if no action is taken against the accused after these two days, a massive agitation will follow and all teachers and workers will boycott their duties.
