GDMC Hospital to get state-of-the-art skills lab for medical staff

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
The Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital is poised to establish a state-of-the-art skills lab on the sixth floor of its OT- Emergency Building. This facility will provide doctors, nurses and other medical staff with hands-on training in advanced medical technologies, enabling them to hone their skills in a controlled environment and improve their response to critical situations.
To prepare for the upcoming Skills Lab, GDMC principal, Dr Geeta Jain, alongside engineers and the head of the department of Anesthesia, recently conducted a thorough site inspection. During this inspection, they addressed essential aspects such as the building’s structural integrity, the installation of required equipment, electrical and technical setups, space organisation and the creation of a supportive training environment. The principal instructed the officials concerned to move forward with these considerations.
She also instructed the officials to create the lab in line with both national and international training standards, aiming for the institute to evolve into a premier centre for advanced medical training in the future.
Jain said that while the medical college currently has a skills lab, the separation between the college and the hospital along with the fact that classes of clinical subjects mainly take place on the hospital campus, has limited its effective utilisation. Developing a skills lab at the hospital will enhance the alignment between training and clinical practice. This setup will allow students, interns, resident doctors and other healthcare professionals to engage in regular practice close to their workplace, thereby making the learning experience more seamless and effective, she added.
