The Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital has initiated the Operation Theatre (OT) and Medical Records Department (MRD) modules, which were integrated into the Hospital Information Management System (HIMS) on May 1. According to hospital officials, the NextGen e-Hospital system, developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) is currently operational, with billing, registration, admission and discharge modules already active.
The integration of the OT and MRD modules into HIMS is expected to provide a unified digital platform for all patient visits, making complete patient data readily accessible. This linkage will offer instant access to information related to surgeries, operative details, post-operative care and medical records, significantly enhancing transparency, efficiency and accountability.
Officials stated that with this digitisation, the clinical and operation theatre data required for Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) seats, as per the standards of the National Medical Commission (NMC), will now be automatically compiled in digital format. This will reduce the manual workload and streamline academic and administrative processes.
GDMC principal Dr Geeta Jain said that this initiative will not only improve healthcare services for patients by making them faster and more transparent but will also enhance the administrative efficiency and academic quality of the hospital. This achievement marks another concrete step by GDMC Hospital toward the objectives of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), she said.
