General Khanduri cremated with full State honours

 Former chief minister and former Union minister major general (retd) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri was cremated with full state honours on Wednesday. Large number of the people attended the last rites of Khanduri and paid their tributes to him. After a prolonged illness Khanduri (91 years) passed away on Tuesday.

A squad of Uttarakhand police and soldiers of the Indian Army presented a guard of honour to the late leader at the funeral ground.  His son Manish Khanduri performed the last rites of his father.

The Antim Yatra of the former CM affectionately called as the ‘General’ by the people began at 10 AM from his residence in Basant Vihar. His mortal remains were kept for Darshan at the State headquarters of the BJP at Balbir road from where the procession headed for Haridwar for the last rites. The vice president CP Radhakrishnan and Uttarakhand governor lieutenant general ( rtd) Gurmit Singh visited the residence of Khanduri in the morning to pay floral tributes to the departed leader.

Paying tributes to Khanduri, Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that his demise is an irreparable loss for the State and country. He said that Khanduri will always be remembered for the transparency, discipline and exemplary works performed while serving in the Army, as the Union minister and as CM of Uttarakhand.

The Union minister for Power, Manohar Lal Khattar said that the life of Khanduri is an example of simplicity, discipline and honesty. He said that Khanduri helped in forwarding the ideas of good governance and Lokpal.

Former Maharashtra governor and former CM Bhagat Singh Koshyari, former CM Vijay Bahuguna, Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank, Teerath Singh Rawat, union minister of State Ajay Tamta, general secretary organisation of BJP Ajey Kumar, MPs Ajay Bhatt, Anil Baluni, Uttarakhand ministers Subodh Uniyal, Satpal Maharaj, Dhan Singh Rawat, Ganesh Joshi, Saurabh Bahuguna, Madan Kaushik, Pradeep Batra, Khajan Dass, MLAs and others attended the funeral.
