GMVN expands destination wedding services in Uttarakhand

The Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) is now fully equipped to host destination weddings across the Garhwal division of Uttarakhand, moving beyond its previous role of providing venues. This shift follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated encouragement to promote Uttarakhand as a prime location for destination weddings. Modi first talked about this potential during the Uttarakhand Investors’ Summit in Dehradun in 2023 and again in March 2024 at Harshil in Uttarkashi. According to GMVN managing director Vishal Mishra, GMVN hosted about 90 weddings in 2024, generating approximately Rs 60 lakh in revenue. In 2025, GMVN has already organised over 40 weddings and plans to hold around 50 more by the end of the year, expecting to generate Rs 80 lakh in revenue. He said that this year, GMVN has introduced comprehensive wedding services, offering a full range of services, including trusted vendors and event coordination. Couples can plan their weddings in popular Garhwal locations by booking at least three months in advance. GMVN provides packages starting from Rs five to six lakh for a complete wedding, which includes venue, services and other arrangements. Wedding venue rentals range from Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh. The MD stated that Triyuginarayan in Rudraprayag district is currently the most popular wedding destination in Uttarakhand, with 20 to 25 weddings taking place there annually. Other GMVN properties, including Ganga Resort in Rishikesh, Mandakini Resort near Tilwara in Rudraprayag and others in Rishilok, Chamba, Kaleshwar, Dakpatthar and Haridwar, also host several weddings each year, Mishra said. He said that GMVN anticipates these numbers will continue to rise.
