PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

The police have booked former MLA Suresh Rathore and his alleged wife Urmila Sanawar following a complaint lodged by former district Panchayat member Arti Gaur at the Nehru Colony police station here on Wednesday. In her complaint she alleged that Sanawar and Rathore were making false and objectionable posts against her on social media. The police have lodged a case under section 63 of the Information Technology Act and sections 308 (7), 351(2), 352 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to extortion, criminal intimidation,  intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace or another offense and acts intended to insult the modesty or dignity of a woman.

Gaur alleged that false audio recordings have been uploaded on social media in which obscene and abusive language has been used against her. She claimed that these posts are trying to link her name with political leaders and are damaging her reputation. She also alleged that attempts are being made to provoke local people by spreading rumours related to the sensitive Ankita Bhandari murder case, which may put her life in danger.

According to the complaint, Gaur has received threats of murder and also been threatened with circulation of fake AI-generated obscene videos. She said that her Aadhaar details and phone number were spread on social media, after which she started receiving threats. Due to these incidents, she fears for her safety, especially because she travels frequently due to political and social work. She also claimed that the accused woman had earlier filed false cases against her and demanded money for compromise. She informed the police that several criminal cases are already pending against the same woman in Dehradun, Haridwar and Saharanpur related to obscene content and spreading communal tension.
