Goonda Act notice to builder, 7-day deadline given

The court of the Dehradun district magistrate has taken action against a controversial builder, Puneet Agarwal, after several complaints about his alleged misconduct. The court has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and issued a notice under the Goonda Act, asking him to give a reply within seven days. If he fails to respond, the administration may start proceedings for his externment from the district.

Reportedly, the builder is already facing five criminal cases under different sections of the law. He has been accused of assault, threatening people, abusing residents and children, and trying to hit people with his vehicle. There are also allegations that he tried to grab a widow’s land using fake documents and harassed local residents and RWA members by filing false cases. The issue came to light from the ATS Colony on Sahastradhara Road, where residents have been complaining about the builder’s behaviour for some time now. In one incident, he allegedly attacked a DRDO scientist after a dispute over illegal construction. The scientist was injured in the incident and a police case was registered.

Earlier, during Diwali, the builder had also allegedly waved a pistol in front of minor children, after which his arms licence was suspended by the district administration. DM Savin Bansal said that strict action will be taken against anyone who threatens public safety, and no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
