The Vidhan Sabha monsoon session which the government had planned for a duration of four days was curtailed to one and half days. The duration was curtailed due to the lack of business and continued protest by the opposition members.
However, both the government and opposition blamed each other for the brief session which saw the house functioning for only 2.40 hours. Criticising the behaviour of the opposition, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that from day one the opposition was not in favour of running the house. He said that on the inaugural day the house had to be adjourned eight times due to the commotion by the opposition members.
The CM said that the government was prepared to hold discussion on every issue and the disaster was the most important subject on which deliberations in the house should be held. Dhami said that he tried to persuade the leader of the opposition Yashpal Arya to let the house function but the Congress had other ideas.
He said that the opposition tried to garner cheap publicity by spending night in the house. The CM claimed that the Congress had no issues so it focused on creating. He said that many development projects have been envisioned in the supplementary budget. The BJP MLAs also took out a protest march against the behavior of the Congress members in the house.
Meanwhile the LoP Arya said that the Congress wanted to have a discussion on the issues of deteriorating law and order situation, natural disasters, unemployment and other important issues. He said that the Panchayat elections were rigged and adductions of elected members occurred at the behest of police in Nainital. Arya said that false cases were registered against him and MLAs Bhuwan Kapdi and Sumit Hridayesh. He said that the agenda of the house is decided in the meeting of BAC and it was decided earlier the session will be held for four days but later curtailed it arbitrarily.
Chakarata MLA Pritam Singh said that the government had no intention to run the house for four days. He said that the duration of the house is never curtailed due to disruption.
