The Sports minister Rekha Arya informed that the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh recently approved four per cent horizontal reservation for sportspersons in State government jobs. Arya expressed her happiness at the long-awaited implementation of the four per cent reservation for sportspersons in government jobs. She stated that the government order has been issued to include players who have won medals at national and international levels under this reservation bill. In the past, talented players from the State used to migrate to other States, causing a significant issue, but now these players will be able to serve in government positions within their own State. This move is expected to prevent the migration of sportspersons and encourage their contribution to the State’s progress, she added.
The Sports minister further stated that all players in the State will benefit from this decision. She said that the State government is persistently working towards the advancement of sports and players. Historic initiatives like Chief Minister Udyaman Unnayan Yojana, the establishment of a Sports University, the formation of a Sports College and the organisation of the Khel Mahakumbh have been undertaken by the government. She said that such initiatives and the recent decision will undoubtedly attract the youth of the State towards sports, encouraging them to strive for national and State pride in the future.
