The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami have greeted the people of the State on the occasion 80th Independence Day.
In his message on the eve of Independence Day, the governor said that due to the sacrifice of the freedom fighters that we are realizing our dreams in independent India today. He said that Independence Day is not just an occasion for celebration, but also an opportunity to fulfil our responsibilities to the nation with renewed resolve and dedication. “ On this Independence Day, we need to make three key resolutions—‘Nation First’, ‘Drug-Free India,’ and ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’—a part of our personal and social lives. These resolutions will become the foundation for India’s progress in the next phase of independence,’’ he said.
The governor said that despite its challenging geographical conditions, Uttarakhand is establishing new dimensions of development. The State has immense potential in areas such as Yoga, Ayurveda, natural and organic agriculture, horticulture, honey, aroma, wellness, adventure tourism and eco-tourism.
In his message, CM Dhami paid glowing tributes to freedom fighters and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence. He said that more than 30 new policies have been implemented to encourage industrial development and investment in the State. The Chief Minister’s Border Area Development scheme and the Vibrant Village scheme are accelerating the development of villages in border areas. The House of Himalayas brand has been launched to provide domestic and international markets for Uttarakhand’s local products. Along with the Apple, Kiwi and Dragon Fruit Mission, aromatic agriculture is also being promoted in the state.
Dhami said that Uttarakhand has become the first state in independent India to implement the Uniform Civil Code. Strict land laws have been implemented in accordance with public sentiment. The anti-copying law has been effectively implemented, and strict action has been taken against the copying mafia. Transparency and timeliness are being ensured in recruitment processes. As a result, over 34,000 appointments have been made in government services in the state in the last five years.
The CM said that recently, Uttarakhand was declared a fully literate state, which is an inspiring example towards the goal of complete literacy in the country.
He added that Uttarakhand is rapidly establishing itself as a tourist and wedding destination in the country, as well as a film shooting destination. As a result of the state government’s improved travel management and arrangements, more than 47 lakh million devotees have undertaken the Char Dham Yatra so far this year.
