Governor, CM remember Gandhi & Shastri on birth anniv

Rich tributes were paid to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries on Friday. Uttarakhand governor lieutenant general ( retd) Gurmit Singh offered floral tributes to the two leaders at Lok Bhawan. He said that Mahatma Gandhi’s life embodies the message of truth, non-violence, cleanliness, self-reliance and dedication to humanity.
He added that Gandhi’s ideas are not limited to any one period, but are a guide for society and the nation even today. Youth should draw inspiration from his life and embrace the values of truth, discipline and service. Paying homage to former PM Shastri, the governor said through his simple life, strong determination and dedication, Shastri sat high standards in public life. His life inspires us to discharge our responsibilities with honesty and dedication, while keeping national interest paramount, he said. The Governor said that the truest tribute to Gandhi and Shastri would be to adopt their thoughts and ideals. By embracing their values, we must play our part in building a strong, self-reliant, and developed India, he said.
Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami offered his tributes by garlanding the pictures of the two leaders at his residence on the day.
He said that Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence,and humanity will always inspire society. He added that Gandhi’s ideas are still relevant today for peace, harmony, and social cohesion. Remembering former PM Shastri, the CM said his slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ will always underscore the respect for the country’s soldiers and farmers and their contribution to nation-building. Dhami said that the ideals of these two great personalities will continue to inspire us to serve the nation and society.
Chief secretary Anand Bardhan offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri at the State secretariat on the day. Principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, R Meenakshi Sundaram and other officers were present on the occasion.
