Governor exhorts women to be fearless, change narrative

The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh stressed on the need for fearlessness while finding new solutions and changing the narrative. He was speaking in the inaugural session of the two-day international seminar “Bharatiya Woman: A True Perspective” at Doon University.
The governor said that such academic discourses shall initiate a movement that should help de-learn archaic ideas around gender and equality. Singh said that in the Indian culture and society the women have given leadership in the spheres of war, skills and arts. Lauding the women of the State, the governor said that they are the backbone of the economy apart from being the most powerful member of the family.
The head of the Rashtriya Sevika Samiti, Shanta Akka said that without the support of women power the establishment of a separate state of Uttarakhand was not possible.
The Doon University vice chancellor Surekha Dangwal said that Indian women have their own perspective which is different from the western idea and hence this seminar is an outcome of a survey conducted in 2019 involving 75,000 women so that actual issues and challenges could be discussed. She also said that it is time to embrace women led empowerment.
The director general of Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST), Durgesh Pant termed women as the backbones who work silently in the struggles and for great historic events. He further said that in the third millennium women shall contribute in full capacity.
The VC, SNDT University Mumbai, Ujjwala Chakradeo presented the reports on pre-conferences.
