SIT issues notices to police officers in farmer suicide case

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has issued notice to the Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police, three sub-inspectors and one assistant sub-inspector in the Kashipur farmer Sukhwant Singh suicide case. They have been asked to appear for questioning and to record their statements.
The SIT is also investigating allegations of land fraud linked to the deceased. For this, notices have been sent to the registrar and Tehsil offices, as well as to various banks, to obtain banking transactions records. These records will be examined to verify the truth of the financial transactions and documents related to the case.
The deceased had made a video and levelled allegations against the police and others before commiting suicide. He had alleged that the police and others had been harassing him for the past four months, due to which he took the extreme step. SIT member and Champawat superintendent of police Ajay Ganpati said that important documents related to the incident have been taken into possession and are being closely examined. A special technical team of the SIT is also analysing call details, CCTV footage, digital evidence and other technical inputs as part of the ongoing investigation, he said.
