Govt extends special provision ordinance for slums for 3 more years

The Uttarakhand government has again extended the term of the special provision for slums ordinance granting safety to the slums of the State for a period of three more years. The State cabinet in its meeting held at the State secretariat on Wednesday gave its approval for the ordinance. The slums ordinance was first promulgated in the year 2018 by the then government headed by chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to safeguard 582 slums identified by the government in a survey conducted in the year 2016 from the High Court ( HC) order. The government extended the ordinance for three more years in the year 2021 and now it has further been increased to three years.
In another decision, the cabinet approved the plan to give 358 square meters of land in the Civil court Vikasnagar to the Bar association on a lease of 30 years. The proposal to create a new post of deputy drugs controller in the Food Safety and Drugs Administration (FDA) was also approved by the cabinet. The decision to extend the CM free gas refill scheme to 2027 for the Antyodaya ration card holders was also taken by the cabinet.
The cabinet also approved the proposal to create 17 posts in the Uttarakhand Society for Promotion of Investment Startup and Entrepreneurship.
U’khand imposes water tax on industrial use of ground & spring water
DEHRADUN :The State government has decided to levy tax on usage of underground and spring water by the industrial units, hotels and other business establishments. The State cabinet in its meeting held at the State secretariat on Wednesday approved the proposal to impose tax on non agricultural use of groundwater. The secretary Shailesh Bagauli said that the water tax will be effective from December 1, 2024 and its objective is to regulate groundwater usage and limit its excessive utilisation and exploitation. The proposed tax will not be applicable on use of ground water for drinking purposes. The water tax will be charged according to the place from where the groundwater is extracted and on the type of its industrial usage. The water tax ranges from Rs 11 per kilo liter to Rs 648 per kilo liter.
ITBP battalions of U’khand to get local meat, chicken & trout
DEHRADUN : In a decision aimed at providing support to the shepherds, poultry and trout farmers of the mountainous areas of Uttarakhand, the State cabinet on Wednesday approved a scheme to provide goat meat, trout and chicken to the battalions of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) deployed in the State. Informing about the decision the Secretary BVRC Purushottam said that the scheme will provide direct benefit to more than 11,000 shepherds and farmers. The scheme will be implemented through the cooperative societies and they will soon enter a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ITBP to supply meat, chicken and fish. He said that the State government has set up a revolving fund of Rs five crore for interest free loan under the scheme. Initially the scheme will be implemented in Chamoli, Pithoragarh and Uttarkashi districts and later it will be extended in other districts as well. Purushottam said that the scheme will generate an annual trade of Rs 200 crore and help in creating a mega market for the shepherds, poultry and trout farmers.
Indisposed, minister Uniyal leaves cabinet meeting
DEHRADUN : Forest minister Subodh Uniyal abruptly left the meeting of the State cabinet on Wednesday after his health deteriorated. The minister complained of breathlessness following which he left the meeting in a huff. His staff rushed him to the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital where the doctors examined him. After the medical checkup the minister was advised rest by the doctors. The public relations officer (PRO) of Uniyal said that the health of the minister is fine.
