The Congress has alleged that the State government is simply repeating the exercise it had undergone in 2018 in the name of global investors summit. Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara said that the State government should first focus on developing proper infrastructure including better roads, improve the law and order situation and create an atmosphere to attract investments and industries.
Addressing the media here on Sunday Mahara said, “The work being done under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami now is similar to the exercise undertaken during the then chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat’s tenure for the global investors summit in 2018. The government had claimed in 2018 that seven lakh people would be provided jobs but the unemployment rate in Uttarakhand now is about double the national rate. The State government should inform the public about how much was actually invested in Uttarakhand after the last summit. Little has been done on the ground during the tenures of the BJP government so far,” said Mahara.
The PCC president further questioned why Dhami had to go all the way to London to sign an agreement with a company which is based in Ghaziabad. He said, “This company is based in Ghaziabad but instead of signing an agreement with it here, the CM had to go to London to do the same. Another thing which must be remembered is that the agreements signed by the CM so far are not guarantee of investment. They only mean that the companies are interested in investing if the necessary facilities are provided in the State. Make Dehradun a Smart City, improve the condition of roads and the law and order situation to ensure the investments are made. Who will invest when the condition of roads is so bad and so many people die in disasters?”
