Angered by the absence of two teachers of Junior High School in Bhalgaon on Teachers’ Day, the guardians wrote to the chief education officer of Chamoli district, informing him of the difficulties faced by the students.
Mother of a student, Anjana Devi said that as they had turned up at the school on the occasion of the Teachers’ Day, they found that two teachers were absent. “This absenteeism is not an isolated incident; it happens almost daily. So we decided to write to the district chief education officer to inform him of the sorry state of things at the school, which affects the children’s studies,” she said.
Echoing her, another guardian, Sumna Devi said that the teachers’ absence from the school on the day Teachers’ Day is celebrated is unfortunate. “This irresponsibility on the part of the teachers makes the future of the students bleak,” she added.
Asked about the complainant, the district basic education officer, Pankaj Upreti said that they were looking into the complaint.
