PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
Congratulating former Inspector General (IG) of police Vimla Gunjyal and Colonel (retd) Yashpal Singh Negi for being elected unopposed as Pradhans of their respective villages, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that their election is very inspiring and an example of reverse migration.
He said that the selection of these two retired senior officers as Gram Pradhan by the villagers will strengthen the Panchayati Raj system in the State. He added that the experience of these officers will give a new direction to rural development in the State. Dhami expressed hope that Gunji and Birgan village Panchayat will emerge as model villages.
The CM said that such examples show that even after retirement, a person can play an important role in the progress of the village with his experience and spirit of service. The state government is committed to give full support to all such efforts, he added.
The chief minister said that the State government is continuously working to promote rural livelihood, agriculture, horticulture and self-employment so that the villages become self-reliant and this tradition of reverse migration can be strengthened.
It is pertinent to mention here that retired IPS Gunjyal was persuaded by the villagers of Gunji village of Pithoragarh to file her nomination papers for the post of village Pradhan. She was elected unopposed by the villagers. Similarly Col (retd) Negi was elected Pradhan of Birgan village unopposed.
