Hearing on a public interest litigation against alleged scam in the Horticulture department, the Uttarakhand High Court has directed the department’s director HS Baweja to appear in court via video conferencing. The division bench of Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Alok Kumar Verma issued this direction while hearing the PIL on Tuesday.
Almora resident Deepak Kargedi had filed the PIL contending that the department’s director has been negligent in execution of various schemes for cultivators. The petitioner states that in one government scheme in which fruit saplings were distributed to farmers, the department gave the contract to an enterprise in violation of rules. A few days after getting the contract, the enterprise allegedly got crores of rupees deposited into its account due to irregularities in the department. The Uttarkashi district magistrate has also confirmed this in his letter, said the petitioner. The petitioner has sought an investigation into the alleged scam in the Horticulture department.
