The Uttarakhand High Court has granted bail to Dr Durgesh Kumar who used to work as a doctor in the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology and was accused of digital rape of a girl student. The single bench of justice Alok Verma granted the bail to the accused. The prosecution was unable to present the medical report of the girl allegedly raped by the accused. The counsel for the defence told the court that the chargesheet has been presented in court and there is no scope for tampering with the evidence. The doctor has been in jail since December last year. The accused was granted bail by the High Court on the condition that he will present himself regularly in the trial court.
It is pertinent to mention here that in her police complaint the victim has stated that on November 30 last year she went to the doctor after experiencing pain while urinating. The doctor advised her to give a urine sample and then reportedly told her that he needed to examine her private parts to check for infection.
He then allegedly digitally raped the girl student. The student said that initially she was not in a mental state to complain about this incident. However, she gathered the courage and lodged a police complaint after another girl student of the university reported a similar incident.
