Haldwani MLA Sumit Hridayesh blamed the State government for anarchy which violated democracy during the Nainital district Panchayat elections, accusing the ruling party of trying to “turn Uttarakhand into Bihar”.
Addressing the media here on Friday, he alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party members indulged in goondaism in front of the police and administration, with videos of their actions having gone viral on social media. “The BJP is dreaming of turning Uttarakhand into Bihar but the people will remove them from power in the 2027 Vidhan Sabha election. The ruling party murdered democracy by committing dacoity of votes and then held the Vidhan Sabha session for only a day and a half in an attempt to silence the opposition. Misbehaviour with opposition MLAs and avoiding debate on issues of public concern are signs of the BJP’s proclivity for autocracy,” the Congress leader said.
Stating that the Congress will soon undertake an elaborate protest movement, he claimed that the people are now uniting against the BJP and will teach it a lesson in the Vidhan Sabha election.
