Uttarakhand government has directed all the chief medical officers (CMOs) to prepare a list of the doctors in their respective districts and asked them to ensure that no doctor is practicing in their area without registration. Action will also be taken against the doctors who have not renewed their registrations.
In an order, the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar said that as per the provisions of the National Medical Commission Act -2019 (formerly Indian Medical Council Act- 1956) only the registered doctors can engage in medical practice. The act regulates the medical services in the country. He said that the State government is committed to ensure transparency and accountability in the health services. The secretary said that many doctors are engaged in medical practice without registration which is putting up a question mark over the quality of the services. He warned that the practice sans registration will not be allowed.
Kumar said that the State administration was receiving many complaints about the doctors practicing without registration or any valid degree. He claimed the order of the government on unregistered medical practitioners will not only put a control over such doctors but will also strengthen the faith of the general public.
Kumar said that all the doctors who have not registered themselves or have not renewed their registration will be brought under the ambit of action. He added that the Medical Council has been directed to send an updated list of registered doctors and those practicing without registration to districts and make these lists public. He added that the process of registration is being made simple and online.
Kumar said that the CMOs have been directed to check the documents of the doctors in the districts and ensure that no doctor is practising without registration.
