Heat stroke rooms to come up in all hospitals: DG Health

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun
Director General of the State Health services Dr Sunita Tamta said that directives have been issued to set up specialised “heat stroke rooms” in all medical facilities across the State to ensure that patients suffering from heatstroke receive prompt and effective care. Notably, given the increasing temperatures in the State, the Health department has also released a health advisory for each district, outlining thorough strategies for both the prevention and treatment of heat stroke during the ongoing heat wave.
Tamta emphasised that essential supplies such as ice packs, intravenous fluids, oral rehydration solutions, vital medications and ventilators are being provided in all heat stroke rooms. She also instructed doctors and healthcare personnel in hospitals to stay vigilant in managing treatments and emergencies related to heat stroke.
She also said that, considering the forecast of further rise in the mercury by the Meteorological department, it is important for children, the elderly and working individuals to take extra precautions. The National Health Mission has distributed educational materials across every district to promote heat stroke prevention and raise awareness. Through the use of posters, pamphlets and public awareness initiatives, efforts are being made to inform people about avoiding outdoor activities during extreme heat, staying adequately hydrated, wearing lightweight clothing and preventing dehydration. Tamta urged the public to limit time spent outside during intense sunlight and high temperatures. She also emphasised the importance of drinking plenty of water and advised seeking assistance from the nearest health centre if any issues arise.
