Two shops and a house collapsed on Monday morning after heavy rain lashed Dehradun late Sunday night. The incident took place at Bismillah Chowk in Muslim Basti, Kargi Grant.
The house that crumbled belonged to a widow, Bushra Parveen. Rendered homeless along with her children, she appealed to the government for help.
Following the incident, local residents rushed in and helped move belongings to safer places.
With the rain spell continuing, the police and the district administration are on alert with full preparations for emergencies. Dehradun superintendent of police (City) Pramod Kumar said that preparations have already been completed to deal with emergencies and waterlogging.
“Police teams are closely monitoring the low-lying and waterlogging- prone areas,” he said.
Kumar further said that SDRF, fire teams, civil police and the administration are reaching the spot quickly whenever they receive information about an emergency. “Several people have also been rescued during the monsoon so far,” he claimed.
He said that Cheetah mobile and police station mobile teams are using loudspeakers to warn people. “Residents have been advised to avoid waterlogged areas and follow the instructions of the police and administration,” he stated.
